National Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 15th! It is celebrated every year on the 3rd Monday of January. This year’s observance is on Martin’s actual birthday, January 15! Dr. King’s message was about nonviolent activism to address injustice locally and worldwide. It is about building a better world for us all. This day is also called MLK Day of Service.
MLK Day is a perfect time to increase your inclusion activities. Here are a few ideas if you are looking to do something different on MLK Day:
Look for where you can give back
Volunteer with an organization supporting diversity and inclusion.
Participate in community events that are inclusive and diverse.
Seek out a different experience
Listen to different genres of music for the whole day.
Try meals of a different culture at a restaurant or from a recipe
Get to know another co-worker outside of your department.
Learn more about MLK’s history
Visit a museum to learn more about his legacy
Watch a documentary to learn about the past
Rewatch the famous “I Have a Dream” speech
Think about what you can do to help create a better world for future generations. It’s a beautiful dream to have.
