February is Black History Month. This month of observance is also known as African American History Month. It was officially recognized in 1976 and is a time to acknowledge the significant impact that Black individuals and communities have had on the nation’s history, culture, and progress.
In celebration of Black History Month this year, the 2024 theme is African Americans and the Arts. History.com notes that it “explores the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression.” Check out these links for more historical information and engaging events:
