Our beekeeper Soloman's recent visit to check the TBC hive was for one specific reason: check for Varroa Mites.

He says: Varroa mites are the beekeeper's public enemy #1. They are parasitic pests that can cause serious damage to a hive by feeding on developing bees and vectoring diseases to adult bees. That is why it is vital for us to keep a check on the mite population and treat it when needed. Especially in the late summer/ early autumn as the mite population is expected to grow.

Your hive has a bustling population and did not have any mites during the check! That is great news, but I will keep a close eye on the mite population throughout the rest of my visits. For now, I placed a bucket full of syrup to give the bees an extra boost of food.
